Non-Obstetric Ultrasound (NOUS) Backlog Reduction

Background and requirement

Our client, a healthcare provider in West Wales offers radiology services to a population of approximately 384,000 across multiple locations. The service conducts around 34,200 non-obstetric ultrasound scans (NOUS) annually.

Due to backlogs caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the provider sought an insourcing partner to deliver NOUS across these locations. The requirement included a wide range of ultrasound examinations, including adult, paediatric, and specialist scans such as general abdominal, head & neck, vascular, musculoskeletal, small parts, and hernias.

The provider required:

  • An insourcing solution to deliver NOUS across multiple locations.

  • A clinical team skilled in a variety of ultrasound examinations.

  • Quick mobilisation to address the backlog.

  • Timely scanning and reporting to maintain patient care standards.
